Lake Wise List of Shoreland Best Management Practices (BMPs)
While living along a shore, it's critical to understand the conditions that help protect the functions and values of lakes, such as water quality, aquatic habitat, fhising, swimming, boating, bird-watching, property values, and others. Using Best Management Practices (BMPs) will help achieve the healthy shoreland conditions needed to protect the lake.

A Guide to Healthy Lakes Using Lakeshore Landscaping
This booklet grew out of a series of Federation of Vermont Lakes and Ponds (FOVLAP) projects designed to encourage lakeshore property owners to add vegetation to their property. It includes design templates and easy-to-use planting plans.
Vegetated buffers, like wetlands, are crucial to maintaining and improving water quality, flood resiliency, and aquatic and lakeshore ecosystems. When lakeshore owners act, everyone benefits. Clean water and healthy ecosystems enhance our recreational experiences, provide fish and wildlife habitat, reduce costs for drinking water systems, and protect lake property values.
