Treasure Island
The Town of Thetford owns the 11.5 acre Treasure Island site, which actually is located in West Fairlee and a small portion in Fairlee. Thetford has operated Treasure Island under the auspices of its Recreation Department, employing a site manager and seasonal staff including lifeguards, swimming instructors, and youth activity leaders. In recent years, the town’s operating costs for Treasure Island have exceeded revenues from user fees by an average of $25,000 annually.
Treasure Island Committee
In 2020, the Town of Thetford created the Treasure Island Exploratory Committee comprised of community volunteers and chaired by an LFA board member. The committee name has been changed to the Treasure Island Committee, which is now a standing committee of the Thetford Selectboard. The committee's charge is to “develop a financially sustainable way to improve and maintain facilities and expand recreational and educational activities while adhering to best environmental practices.”
The Treasure Island Committee meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Thetford town offices (with a
